Shaun,

I note your email is posted for submission of information on the web page for the Lynn Directory of 1841.
The directory has some importance for African-American history as it was published and printed by Benjamin Franklin Roberts, an African-American printer.
In the 1850s, this same Roberts sued the city of Boston on behalf of his daughter Sarah who had to walk by segregated whites-only schools in order to get to the only elementary school for blacks in Boston, the Smith School on Beacon Hill.
This suit was lost by Roberts when the Massachuetts Supreme Court formed a decision based on a "separate but equal" doctrine. The argument on behalf of Sarah Roberts was argued by Chales Sumner. This "separate but equal" doctrine was later taken up by the U.S. Supreme Court and the doctrine was not overturned until the U.S. Supreme Court decision in 1954 on the Brown v. Board of Education case. This was the famous decision that ordered school desegregation. That decision cited Charles Sumner's argument of almost a hundred years before, essentially saying that Sumner was correct.
Anyway, if you want more information, you might want to look at the book, "Sarah's Long Walk", published only a few years ago.

Regards,
George
